KPM otherwise known as Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur translates in English to Royal Porcelain Factory. The factory located in Berlin was founded as KPM in 1763 after Frederick ll of Prussia (Frederick the Great) bought it from another and gave it its name. Frederick the Great was not only known as the owner of the factory but also as its best customer. He placed many porcelain orders for his own palace which is why so many of the dinnerware services match its interior. His inspiration for these designs came from the Rococo style.
KPM are also well known for their technological aspects in the ceramic industry. They were able to produce new innovations when it came to moulds and colours. Their influences for this came from Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and New Objectivity.
KPM antiques are a delight at any live auctioneers. For more information on how to sell items with us please get in touch.
