If you’re a newbie to the world of online antique and collectibles auctions, we’re here to help. Any veteran bidder will understand the thrill that comes with finding that perfect item, placing the highest bid and winning the lot – whether it’s antique furniture, tableware, jewellery, fine art or cultural memorabilia. The world is your oyster and, with our guidance, you can navigate this exciting world with ease.
At Featonby’s, as online auctioneers, we’re dedicated to helping treasure hunters find the rare, vintage or collectible item they’ve been searching for and getting their hands on this coveted piece of history. It can, however, be hard to know where to start when it comes to the online bidding process – but not anymore, as we’re breaking down the simple and satisfying process of placing your bid at auction in the digital world.
We’re partnered with live online bidding auctions sites the saleroom and easylive auction, where you can browse, bid on and buy items from our antique and collectibles auctions in real-time alongside a community of fellow bidders. Each week, you’ll find the latest lots up for grabs on our dedicated page – where you’re able to leave absentee bids, should you not be able to attend the live auction in person or online.
If you are getting in on all the live action, however, here’s how it works:
Step 1: Find the item
It may be that you already know exactly which item you’d like to bid on from browsing our weekly lots – in which case this step is as simple as hunting down the lot in question. In this case, simply head to the-saleroom.com, find our auction listed in ‘Today’s live auctions’ and click through to track down the item you want.
Alternatively, if you’re not sure what’s available this week but are excited to explore the full collection, follow the same process to get to our live auction on the saleroom site and peruse to your heart’s content.
Step 2: Bid on the item
Assuming you’ve created a free account with the saleroom and found an item you’d love to take home, it’s time to get bidding. While it is possible to set a maximum bid (the highest amount you’re happy to pay for the lot), there’s nothing quite like the experience of bidding in real-time and soaking up the authentic auction atmosphere.
With live audio and video feeds, it’s a dynamic and interactive experience you’ll love being a part of – and to stand the best chances of winning the item you want, we’d always recommend the live approach. This way, you can keep constant watch over the lots you’re most interested in throughout the auction, allowing you to react immediately to any higher bids and do everything you can to nab that item for yourself.
Step 3: Win the item
This final step is the fun part, assuming you’re the highest bidder in the online auction. If your close observation and fast reactions have paid off, the lot is yours!
You can’t beat the rush of adrenaline that comes with winning your first item at one of our antique and collectibles auctions – and if you can’t wait to get involved for yourself, check out this week’s lots to get started. Auction websites like the saleroom take the hassle out of hunting for treasure online, and Featonby’s is your gateway to this action-packed world.
